Manpower Minister Dr Tan See Leng assured Parliament on Wednesday that the Government will not leave Singaporeans as “helpless passengers” as artificial intelligence reshapes the economy. He cited early signs of optimism, noting that two in three companies that made AI-driven cuts are already rehiring, and that most firms using AI are augmenting rather than replacing workers. The Ministry of Manpower report from April 30 showed that only three in 10 firms have adopted AI, with seven in 10 of those seeing productivity gains and many redesigning jobs rather than eliminating them.
- ⚖️ Labour chief Ng Chee Meng’s parliamentary motion on “no jobless growth” was “unanimously passed” after seven hours of speeches and debates by 24 MPs.
- 💼 Over 1,600 AI-related courses are now available on the MySkillsFuture website, and from the second half of 2026, Singaporeans enrolling in selected SkillsFuture AI courses will receive “six months of free access to premium AI tools.”
- 🏛️ The Government recently passed the Bill for the Skills and Workforce Development Agency, which merges SkillsFuture Singapore and Workforce Singapore to provide easier access to support for both businesses and workers.
